5 Organizations Doing Great Things in ATX
At all things faithful, we love our Austin home and want to see it flourish and grow. That’s why we appreciate and encourage all those who are using their faith in action to give back and support our community.
“In everything, I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35)
Here are 5 organizations in ATX who are doing great things (and could use volunteers and support)!
Mobile Loaves and Fishes
You may have seen the Mobile Loaves and Fishes truck around town but that’s not all they do. In addition to serving the homeless by providing food, clothes, and essentials 7 nights a week, 365 days a year, Mobile Loaves and Fishes has a transformative, supportive residential program for the homeless as well. MLF also provides micro-enterprise opportunities for men and women to “use their God-given talents to earn a dignified income”. They have been serving our community since 1998 and have provided over 5 million meals to those in need.
Interfaith Action of Central Texas (iAct)
iACT cultivates peace and respect through interfaith dialogue, service and celebration. iACT bridges denominations and disciplines to bring people together to serve together in the community we all live in. Part of iACT’s work includes the Red Bench, which is a dialogue program aimed to improve understanding across faiths and improve civil discourse. iACT also brings together professionals and volunteers to rebuild housing for seniors and the disabled who are living in poverty through their Hands on Housing program. In addition, iACT is a pivotal resources for refugees in our community by providing English courses and cultural skills.
You may have seen us mention Rev 1211 in regards to our local music #faithful picks. Rev 1211 is a local nonprofit that connects artists with community and resources to support and help fulfill their life and kingdom purposes. Some of their programs include a Lifespace for artists to grow spiritually and artistically, Unplugged worship sessions, and the JustLove program that bring artists together to give back to the community.
Frontline Faith Project
Frontline Faith Project is a local nonprofit that is “putting ‘spiritual strength and support’ in the hands of the men and women serving us all in our U.S. Armed Forces”. This organization sends mp3 players filled with inspirational and spiritual support and guidance to our servicemembers overseas.
” Success isn’t determined by the product we make.
But rather, by the people in the making.”
The ReWork Project provides the opportunity for a job and to earn a dignified wage through hands-on training for life and job skills by crafting outdoor wood products. They promote a job-like atmosphere, regular routine, and respect for co-workers to help those in need find a better life and grow spiritually. You can support ReWork by purchasing the handcrafted works created by those involved including birdhouses, cornholes, swings, and tables.
