Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

Scrolling through Spotify’s Top Christian playlist (which you should definitely be following!), we came upon the song “Reckless Love” by Cory Asbury and had to know more about the musician behind such a raw, emotive song that is perfect for every season of life.

Cory Asbury is a worship leader, songwriter, and pastor who joined Bethel Music in May of 2015. Cory’s third solo album, Reckless Love will release pretty soon in January 2018. His previous solo albums, Holy and Let Me See Your Eyes, include well-known songs “Where I Belong”, “So Good to Me”, “Always Faithful” and “Jesus, Let Me See Your Eyes”. Cory is featured on Bethel Music’s Have it All album with his song “Son of God”.

Cory is from North Carolina and started leading worship at age fourteen, and progressed into full-time worship ministry at the International House of Prayer (IHOP) in Kansas City in 2005. He continues to lead worship regionally and internationally, in addition to creating and releasing solo albums.

According to his biography on Forerunner Music, Cory says that his songs usually begin with a gentle nudge or whisper from the Holy Spirit, which flows out of tenderness in quiet time with God. “Usually, the Holy Spirit will give me a melody or a chord progression and that’s where it all begins. From there, I continue to ask Him what He’s saying.” He asks the Lord, “How can I express what I am feeling through music?” His goal through his music is that hearts would fall more in love with Jesus, and that a deep longing to know and love Him more would be awakened in people. Cory says his hope is that people would find true enjoyment in spending time with Jesus.

And true enjoyment indeed is what we’ve found in his music, and we’ll be waiting for the release date of his next album this next month.
