A Father’s Day Prayer

This Sunday is Father’s Day, the day we pause and recognize fathers for all they do for us! While God is the ultimate source for our lives, our earthly fathers, even with their imperfections, shape the men and women we become. We could think of no better way to honor fathers than by praying over them. This is our prayer.

Father God, on this special day when we celebrate the earthly fathers in our lives, we thank You for showing us Your perfect model of Fatherhood. It is for the fathers, families, and children of our world that we offer this prayer.  

Lord, we thank You for the men and fathers who are leading according to Your Will and the ones laying down their lives for Your purposes. We pray You will continue using these men to lead not only their own families, but other men as well. We pray You will strengthen the fathers among us and that You will continue empowering churches, organizations, and individuals to invest in fathers and fatherhood for the sake of our children.   

We pray for single fathers raising their children alone or simply doing their best with the time they have. We pray for strength, protection, wisdom, and discernment to help them through whatever trials they may be facing. Thank You Lord for these men and guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, help meet all of their needs, that they may experience Your peace that surpasses all comprehension.  

We pray for dads separated from their children. We pray, oh Lord, that You would shield and shelter them from the pain of distance, and that You would strike down the barriers hindering these dads from seeing their children. 

Lord, we lift up dads who may be falling short of your expectations of them as fathers. We pray for these men to come to their knees and repent, that they would turn from their ways, seek You, and come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. 

Finally, Father, we ask for you protection for the men and women on the front lines in the battle for fatherhood and the Enemy’s war against fatherlessness. We pray for everything from the right funding for the programs to continue, to Your leadership from beginning to end. We pray for a revival of manhood and for fathers to lead their families by beginning each day on their knees. 

God, scripture teaches us that You will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers. As our Creator, Savior, and heavenly Father, we believe this will bear eternal fruit, and that generational disaccord will become generational blessings, restoring our families as You intended.  

We ask these things not only for our earthly fathers to rise up to the challenge, but more importantly, that they might follow You, Father, as their ultimate guide and example. 

It is in the wonderful, precious, and matchless name of Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
