Three Prayers
Why do we pray? Why do we seek God’s mercy, pouring out our souls to Him while on our knees in supplication?
Because, simply, prayer works. Scripture tells us when we pray God hears us (Jeremiah 29:12-13). When we pray, God will surely respond (John 9:31). Taking our heart to God, He answers our prayers (Matthew 7:8).
Prayer is the most active part of our relationship with God. It helps us hear, see, and feel His presence. It provides a direct connection to His will. It provides hope in times of despair, praise in times of plenty, and comfort in times of uncertainty.
This week, AllThingsFaithful is recognizing the need for prayer in all of these areas. Each of us has a different life experience, and we each bring different needs to God, especially during these turbulent times. Here are three prayers that are specially meaningful to us.
Prayer for Peace
Almighty God, Who has given us this bountiful nation for our heritage and our legacy, we humbly ask for Your strength that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Your favor and find gladness in doing Your will. Bless our country with inspired ministry, learning built from wisdom, and righteous endeavors.
Save us from violence, discord, and confusion, O God, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil thought. Defend our liberties, and help us come together as one united people, brought together from such rich diversity.
Endow with Your spirit of wisdom those we entrust with the authority of governance, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to Your divine law, we may demonstrate the power of Your sovereignty among all the nations of the earth.
In time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, hear our cries for help. In all things, lead us not to the temptations of the enemy but to the deliverance from all evil.
All of this we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
Prayer for National Unity
Dear God, We pray for your protection as one nation under Your sovereignty. We ask that You surround this country and cover us with Your mighty hand. We pray for unity in our land, that in spite of our differences, we would be willing to stand strong together and live out our days with compassion and grace. We ask that no weapon formed against us will prosper, and that you would thwart the attacks of the enemy hurled our way.
Thank You, for You are rich in mercy and full of grace.Thank you, for You are forgiving and merciful. Thank you, for you are strong and mighty. Thank You that You are for us and that You fight for us still today.
Wake us up Lord! Remind us to live aware, to redeem the time, listen to Your words, and be willing to make a difference in this land. Give us courage to speak out. Help us not to stay silent but to do all things through Your wisdom and love.
We pray for Your great healing on our land. Shine Your face on us dear Lord. Give us courage to go into all the world and take the message of the Gospel of peace. We need You just as much now as we ever have before. Our times are in Your hands. Bring honor to your Name today, for You alone are worthy.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Prayer for Trust
Psalm 28:7 “The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.”
God, our strength and shield, You have power over every storm. You are on Your throne and we rejoice in You. In the midst of so much uncertainty across our world, our faith in Christ anchors us. We will trust the One who died and defeated death by His resurrection. In dark storms, we have bright hope.
Our future is secure in Christ who loves us. So, with thankfulness we sing our songs of praise, declaring our joy and our hope found in Christ alone!
In the name of the Risen Son, we pray. Amen!
