God’s Power In Us
“Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”
There are days when the weight of life feels overwhelming. The enemy whispers lies, saying we are weak, inadequate, and powerless. But the truth of God’s Word says otherwise.
Scripture tells us that when we belong to Christ, the very power that raised Jesus from death lives inside of us (Romans 8:11). That’s not poetic language—it’s reality. God’s Spirit dwells in us, and with His strength, we are more than able to face whatever comes our way.
God’s Strength, Not Ours
The apostle Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6:10 to “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.” Notice what Paul doesn’t say. He doesn’t tell us to muster up inner strength or rely on positive thinking. He points us to God’s strength.
Human strength and will power have limits. Even the strongest people eventually hit a wall. But when we lean into the Lord, His power becomes the source of our endurance. Think of David standing before Goliath. By human standards, a shepherd boy had no chance against a giant warrior. Yet David declared, “I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty” (1 Samuel 17:45).
The victory was won because God’s power worked through David’s faith.
Power for God’s Will
One of the greatest truths of the Christian life is that God equips us to do what He calls us to do. Philippians 2:13 says, “For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”
That means we’re not alone in understanding our callings. God not only plants His will in our hearts, but He also gives us the strength to carry it out. If He calls us to forgive, He gives us the grace to forgive. If He calls us to serve, He gives us the energy to serve. If He calls us to share the gospel, He gives us boldness to speak.
Think about that. For every task, every act of obedience, every step of faith—we’re equipped. We’re never empty-handed.
Power to Resist the Enemy
The reality of our Christian walks is that we have a real enemy. Jesus warned in John 10:10 that “the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” Satan’s schemes are crafty. He uses lies, fear, temptation, and discouragement to derail us. But God never leaves us defenseless.
Ephesians 6 describes the armor of God: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit, and prayer.
These aren’t abstract metaphors—they’re real spiritual tools. When we put them on, we can stand firm. James 4:7 reminds us: “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
The enemy cannot defeat the power of God in us. He may attack, but he cannot win against the Spirit of Christ alive in His people.
Power in Weakness
Here’s the paradox: God’s power often shines the brightest when we feel the most weak. Paul knew this well. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, he writes about a thorn in his flesh and God’s reply to his prayers: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Our culture celebrates strength, self-sufficiency, and independence. But God celebrates surrender. When we admit our need, His power flows in. Our weakness becomes the stage for His glory. That’s why Paul could say, “For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10).
Maybe you’re facing a struggle right now that feels impossible. Instead of despairing, remember: your weakness is the very place God shows His strength.
The Same Power
It’s easy to forget just how great the power inside us is. We may feel small, but Scripture tells us something else. Ephesians 1:19-20 describes “the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe.” And what power is that? Paul proclaims it is “the working of his great might that He worked in Christ when He raised him from the dead.”
Let that sink in. The same grave-shattering resurrection power that rolled away the stone, that defeated death itself—that same power is at work in us.
If death couldn’t hold Jesus, then fear can’t hold you. Shame can’t hold you. Addiction can’t hold you. The lies of the enemy can’t hold you. God’s Spirit has set you free.
Live Empowered by God
So, how do we live out this truth in daily life? Here are three simple but powerful steps:
- Stay in God’s Word. His truth is your fuel. It equips you to discern lies and strengthens your faith. (Hebrews 4:12)
- Stay in prayer. Prayer is not a last resort; it is your lifeline. It connects you directly to the source of power. (Philippians 4:6-7)
- Stay in community. God designed us to walk with others. When you feel weak, others can lift you up, and together you experience God’s power. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)
Empowered living isn’t about bravado or show. It’s about quiet, steady confidence in God’s Spirit within you. It’s about walking daily, step by step, in the strength He provides.
God’s Power Within Us
Friend, you are not powerless. You are not defenseless. We’re not left on our own. The Holy Spirit lives in us, and with Him comes wisdom, strength, boldness, and resilience.
No matter what lies ahead—temptation, trials, discouragement, or even spiritual attack—God’s power in you is greater. As 1 John 4:4 proclaims: “he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
So, walk with confidence. Rely on His strength. Trust His Spirit. And know this: God’s power in you is more than enough to overcome, to endure, and to carry out His will for your life.
May God always guide your path.
