Standing Strong in a Shaking World
“I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.” Psalm 16:8 (ESV)
I don’t know about you, but the world can seem pretty unstable right now. One glance at the news—wars, disasters, financial fears, relationships on the rocks—and it’s easy to feel like everything is shifting beneath our feet. Maybe personal pain, health scares, or the loss of a loved one have left you feeling wobbly, too.
But here’s some good news—it’s possible to stand strong, even when everything around you seems shaky.
God: Our Safe Shelter
In the book of Psalms, David reassure us, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth give way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,” (Psalm 46:1–2).
Trouble isn’t a surprise—it’s a reality. But the psalmist shares something greater: God’s steady presence is stronger than any crisis or uncertainty. Our confidence isn’t in the world, but in God, who never wavers.
Building on Solid Ground
Jesus used the image of a house built on rock: “And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24–25).
The storms will come—that’s a guarantee. The real difference is where we’re anchored. When we hear God’s words and put them into practice, we’re building on a foundation that stands firm, no matter what blows our way.
Three Anchors for Tough Times
Here are three practical anchors for holding firm when things feel out of control:
God’s Promises Never Change. God doesn’t change in His character, purpose, or nature. This means His word is absolutely reliable, His love is steadfast, and His faithfulness is eternal, providing a firm foundation of hope and assurance for believers. The prophet Isaiah wrote “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” (Isaiah 40:8). God’s Word is always reliable—build your hope on it.
God’s Power Is Bigger Than Your Fear. Demonstrating God’s power over all of creation, Isaiah went further to reassure Israel with God’s words: “Do not fear, for I am with you… I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). Christ is with you in every storm; He’s greater than whatever you face.
We Need Each Other. Scripture teaches that we need community for spiritual growth, mutual support, and to fulfill Christ’s commands to love and serve one another. Community provides accountability, encouragement, and a way to exercise spiritual gifts within the Body of Christ. Real stability comes in community. Hebrews 10:24–25 encourages us to keep meeting, supporting, and building each other up. Faith flourishes together.
Living Unshaken
Think about Daniel—his whole world changed, governments fell, but his faith stood strong. He prayed, trusted, and kept his anchor in God. The same is possible for us. Even if everything feels shaky, God is steady; He’s unchanging.
The writer of Hebrews reassures us that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8).
A Simple Prayer for Hope
Gracious Father,
When our world shakes, help us remember that You are unshakable. Be our refuge, our strength, and our anchor. Help us stand strong in You.
In Christ’s Name,
Amen.
A Final Thought
You don’t have to let a shaking world shake your heart. In Christ, you can stand strong. So even if the winds howl or the ground trembles, rest in knowing you belong to a God who never moves.
May God always guide your path.
