UNSHAKEABLE
“This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakeable things will remain.” Hebrews 12:27 (NLT)
“Everything in this world that can be shaken will be.”
Does it frighten you to realize that everything in this world is fragile? From our personal lives to global enterprises and governments, nothing can escape God’s call and, yes, judgment. This is what the writer of Hebrews meant when describing “only unshakeable things” we will find in the city of the Living God.
What does this mean for us in today’s world? What happens when our own lives are upended and turned inside out? How do we survive a “shaken life” and where do we turn when events around us test our faith?
We all have these moments. We’re human, and no matter how strong our faith is, it’s easy to “cave” to so many things. It can be subtle at first – a little more shopping, or perhaps scrolling through more social media more than we normally do. Maybe we slip into other vices. Anything to escape from what we see as a world that seems increasingly upside down.
Scripture so clearly tells us it doesn’t matter what happens in the world around us. Jesus proclaimed “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) When Jesus is in our lives, we can find unshakeable faith!
So how does this all work? How can we build unshakeable faith for where we are right now? Here are three suggestions I’ve found useful.
- Surround yourself with friends of faith who will listen and encourage. There are no heroes in the kingdom! Everyone needs a “cloud of witnesses” to support them and hold them up in times of adversity (Hebrews 12:1).
- Take a deep dive into podcasts, devotionals, and scripture. One of the advantages of the modern internet is that the world’s resources are at our fingertips! Feed your thoughts and heart with positive messages. (Matthew 6:33)
- Spend time with God … period. There is no replacement for the connection and miracles that result from turning to God for all our needs. As Paul wrote in Romans 8:31, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
My prayer is that we all continue to grow in our faith no matter where we are on our journey.
I believe when we have unshakeable faith, even if we stumble or fall, we always get up and move forward! Paul wrote to the church in Philippi that we can do all things through him who gives us strength (Philippians 4:13).
When we have faith that is impossible to change or beat down, we are HIS, and we are unshakeable!
May God continuously lead your path
